Using PLR Articles to Boost Back Links

By Jobo Smith

Many people think when they are looking to build up links to their site that they have to write every article by hand and it needs to be original. With somewhere like Qondio, Ezine Articles, or Associated Content to name a few, the answer is 100% yes, those are premier properties to publish on and require totally new articles written by you. One aspect often overlooked is the huge variety or PLR articles available to jump start your writing. PLR stands for private label rights, and they allow you to republish them as you see fit and require no acknowledgement to the original author.

You can find PLR articles all over the net, some are offered for sale as a bundle, others you can get as a bonus for buying software or services, some you can get for free. Now, most of these will do you no good to just publish as is. They might have been used hundreds, or even thousands of times by other marketers. Sometimes, they have never been used.

What I usually do is to take the 2 sentences of the article and one at a time, paste them into Google and search, with quotes around the sentence so it has to be an exact match. If nothing comes up - Bingo! you now have something you can use with no rewriting, Google has no record of that article. If a bunch of entries come up, then you have a bit of rewriting to do. I usually rewrite sentence by sentence so I have a totally new article, but it closely resembles the old article in topic and flow. Even if you have to rewrite, its way faster most of the time than creating an entirely new article, unless you happen to be an expert on the topic of the article. If that was the case, you probably would not need PLR articles.

Where the use of PLR articles is most handy, is in the creation of niche sites, such as fly fishing, composting, glass blowing or other topic which interests you, but you are by no means an expert or may know nothing about. Someone else has given you a jump start with an article which you can insert your link into and publish, whether it needs to be rewritten or not. I usually publish these types of articles to Article Friendly sites, there are thousands of them out there. Article Friendly is a widely distributed article directory script that many people have purchased to run an article directory on their websites, they are easy to open an account at, and when you publish its live most of the time right away.

You will want to have a variety of account names and many different AF sites using various emails so that your publication of articles is mixed up and it does not look like the same person is publishing all the same articles on the same general topic. It takes a bit of time in the beginning to get the accounts set up, but there are tools that can help automate the process. That is beyond the scope of this article, but I will write about that soon.

Contributor's Note

Each PLR article can be used about 15-20 times at different sites before it needs to be rewritten again. Or if you want more mileage out of it, take the rewritten version and the original version and combine them with an article spinner to create a new version for each publishing, it is up to what you feel comfortable doing.

I dunno, Jobo, about these PLRs. I've seen some of my own articles run through a word substitution program (apparently) by someone else, and they come out reading like nonsense. They even kept my name on some of them.

Plus, it doesn't feel right to me. If you're going to write, then write. I've used other articles to give me ideas about my own articles (research), and have even taken small bits and pieces of some of them because I like the wording (after changing it slightly), but I don't think I could ever use someone else's whole article and change it slightly and then pawn it off as my own just to get a back link.

You hear about these PLRs all the time, and it's done a lot. I just don't think it's for me.

I have used them a lot and found them invaluable for certain hard keywords. I just cannot write enough of my own articles for all the various web properties and directories.

The auto rewrite software is all a joke - when I say rewrite I mean you rewrite it by hand in your own words. That other stuff is complete junk and will actually harm your site if you publish gibberish.

One thing that has worked for me is to rewrite the whole PLR article in my own words, and then combine it with the original in an article spinner to make many versions so that each version I publish is unique. Even if I do that, I usually limit it to about 25-30 times its used. The article spinner will randomly choose 1 of 2 sentences for each sentence in the article.

This is only for sites that are not premier sites, you just cannot do this at those and all content needs to be original and unique.
