The Amazing Waste Of Time Spent On Celebrity Gossip

By Jobo Smith

Over the years I have noticed an ever growing population of pure wasted speech. I am not sure the actual level of celebrity worship in the world, but based on the growth of channels, websites, clothing lines, perfumes, magazines and gossip about celebrities, you would think that is literally the most important thing in the whole world. Even the evening news is mostly dedicated to fluff pieces about celebrities, their shopping spree, their new movie, their new clothing line - you name it. Heck, if a celebrity gets in trouble with the law, its like mardi gras for them as they can barely control the enthusiasm for the topic.

It used to be just the Enquirer, Star Magazine, The Globe and maybe a few others. Now there are whole cable channels (Entertainment Television to name just one) devoted to everything celebrity, not to mention websites like TMZ.com. This does not even include all the daytime talk shows, which for the most part are devoted to celebrity worship in one form or another. I do not understand where all this interest suddenly "grew" out of - perhaps I am just a bit naive.

I personally could give a crap about what dress Brittney Spears wore to some dumb awards show, or who is dating who. The biggest joke of all is all the hoopla made about celebrity weddings - if I had to guess the average length of time to divorce is probably only about a year, and maybe 5% (probably generous) or less actually make it 5 years. But I guess the rest of the population does care about this, otherwise this stuff would not keep getting on the air.

It just seems that legitimate programs are going away and its either celebrity worship shows, or celebrity rehab shows all over the place. For the celebrities themselves, this is a great deal - when you are on top, they love talking about you. Mess your life up, crash a car, do drugs, go to jail and get your own reality show - man that is a win/win situation. The public loves you no matter what you do.

Maybe I should figure out how to become a celebrity ...

Thank you for sharing, Jobo. Unfortunitely, it's going to get worse as our young people rant and rave on Utube and Facebook.
Best wishes.

I think it's all part of our covetous nature -- to be like someone else.

So funny and yet so true. I was one of those, why does anyone pay attention to these people, but even I pay attention to the celebrity stories.

The news is innundated with this ...stuff. It feels forced upon you. I think it's sucking our brains out ;)

Totally agree Jobo. It's little wonder that some celebrities let the adoration go to their heads.
