Learning to cook is not hard at all

By Jobo Smith

Many people want to learn how to cook, but are either intimidated by the whole process or really think its too hard to do. This is really not the case. All you need is a decent starter cookbook. Pick out a few recipes, primarily dinners as that is what is mainly cooked these days at home.

Go to the store, get all the items you will need to prepare the recipes and book out about 4 hours where you can practice. It should be expected in the beginning stuff will get messed up. You forget to add ingredients, or add too much or too little. It might not taste right. The main thing is you have to practice in order to see what you are good at and what you are bad at.

The secret to cooking is mostly time management. Really. You usually have 3 or 4 things to prepare, and all usually need to be done around the same time so that the food is all hot and ready to eat. That is what most people have trouble with, they do not know how long X takes to cook, how long Y should stay in the oven etc. This will come with a bit of experience.

One trick to time management is to always have everything cut up and prepared for cooking even before you do anything else. This way you can check that no ingredients are missing, and it makes it far less stressful - and you might even enjoy it. Once you get better, you will start to be able to imagine what an ingredient would do if you added it - would it make the dish better? Worse? This is where the creativity comes in, and this too comes with experience. The creative part is probably the hard part about cooking as you get more experienced, as there will be much more trial and error. Following recipes is super easy once you get the time management down, and people will think you are a good cook. Don't tell them its all about time management.

It's not hard to learn to do anything if you find the right instructions to follow. Having said that why does my anxiety always kick in as soon as I go to put that thought into practice.
